"The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me." Psalms 23

Margaret Evelyn Marriott, 83 years old, passed away peacefully at home in Yelm, WA on December 5, 2009.

Margaret was born at home July 19, 1926 in Seymour, Texas to Robert and Bessie Brown. She was so frail and little when she was born, her family was warned “You better come quick if you want to see her alive!” She proved that mid-wife wrong by living 83 rich, full years!

Margaret was a graduate of Northside High School and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Texas. She married Roy Marriott in 1948 and moved to Perry, Oklahoma where they owned the M & W Grocery store, attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and raised their family.

Mrs. Marriott became a real estate broker and opened Margaret E. Marriott Real Estate in the 1960’s. Then in 1970 the family moved to Norman, Oklahoma where they owned and operated the Red Coat Restaurant. In Norman she continued her real estate career at The Velma Barnes Agency. In 1978 she and Roy moved to Moore, Oklahoma where she worked with Greenbrier Real Estate and RE/MAX of South Oklahoma City.

Margaret loved to laugh. Her bright smile is her trademark. Visiting with Margaret often meant being drawn into a card game-- Gin, Spades, Hearts, take your pick. She loved to play cards. As her children grew up she took an interest in competitive tournament duplicate bridge. In 2001 Margaret was awarded “Life Master”, the American Contract Bridge League’s highest rank of achievement. Since moving to Washington she learned to play pinochle much to the dismay of the competitors at the VFW Hall in Olympia, and Senior Centers in Lacey and Yelm.

The Seattle Mariners were her favorite baseball team. Her football loyalties were always divided between Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas. This year was even more exciting for her with her TCU horn frogs fighting for their place in the rankings.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Roy G. Marriott, four brothers; Jacob (JE) Mc Grew, Emmett McGrew, Robert Brown and Tom Brown, and sister; Jerry Box.

Margaret is mother to six children and “Granny Maggie” to 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren:

Ralph Marriott of Reno, Nevada, his daughter, Dr Crystal Marriott, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and his son, Jacob Marriott, Olympia, Washington.

Anita Marriott and Dan Barrett, their daughter Robin Jorgensen, and their granddaughter , Sydney Q. Jorgensen all from Yelm, Washington.

Lee Marriott and Myrna Douglas, Edmond, Oklahoma and their sons Benjamin, his wife Jamie and two month old grandson, Corbin Lee Marriott, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and son Andrew Marriott, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Paul and MariJo Marriott, and daughters, Megan Marriott, and Kathleen Marriott of Yelm, Washington. Their daughter Skye and her husband Jeremy Tucker, live in Bozeman, Montana.

Robert and Rebecca Marriott, daughter, Steffan and son Keaton all of Norman, Oklahoma.

Victor Marriott, Yelm, Washington.

Her family says if there is a lesson to gain from Margaret’s life is it to smile, choose love and laugh more often.
